WINTHROP – Jean Ballou, 78, a resident of Holmes Road, Winthrop, died Sunday, Sept. 21, at Winthrop Manor.
She was born March 19, 1930, in North Dighton, Mass., the daughter of Ai Wellington and Annie Broadbeat Ballou. After moving from Massachusetts to Litchfield with her parents, Jean attended Litchfield Academy.
She worked on her farm in Winthrop raising horses; having 27 at one time. She raised more than 100 colts, but they were really her babies, always making sure they were good and healthy. She enjoyed her dogs, reading, watching TV and visiting with her friends.
She is survived by two nephews, Robert Ai Ballou Jr. of Greenwood and Howard Ballou of Ohio; two nieces, Teri Bryant of Pennsylvania, and Nancy Eaton of Massachusetts; a sister-in-law, Fern Ballou of Florida; and two very good friends, Boo Whitten and Joseph Cook, both of Winthrop.
She was predeceased by her parents; and two brothers, Robert and Herbert Ballou.
