LIVERMORE FALLS – A Wilton man was released from an Auburn jail on personal recognizance Tuesday after police arrested him Monday on charges that included carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.
Joseph Daoust, 21, had a .40 caliber Glock pistol in his glove compartment and a full magazine that was not in the gun, according to a police report, police Lt. Thomas Gould said Tuesday.
Police officers Cort Hladik and Steve Gould, Lt. Gould’s brother, responded to help Jay police officer Joe Sage about 6 p.m. Monday. Sage was looking for two or three men who were reported to be trying to enter a Main Street, Jay, home where they were not wanted, Jay police Sgt. Troy Young said.
When a threat to call police was made, the men left the residence, Young said.
The suspect vehicle was spotted parked on Main Street in Livermore Falls, officer Steve Gould said.
When police checked on Daoust they learned he had bail conditions for felony charges out of Franklin County, which included having no alcohol, and he had been drinking, Steve Gould said.
According to arrest log and indictment records, Daoust is facing drug trafficking charges and violation of release conditions related to incidents in 2008. He was indicted in April on a count of unlawful trafficking in a scheduled drug connected to a March 7 incident. He was charged in August with trafficking in scheduled drugs. He was also charged in June with violating conditions of release.
Police arrested Daoust Monday night on charges of violating bail conditions, possession of a concealed weapon and receiving stolen property – a firearm, Lt. Thomas Gould said.
When Daoust asked to get paperwork from the glove box under police supervision, police saw the pistol and magazine, Gould said.
After checking the serial number on the gun, Steve Gould said it was found to have been stolen from a New Vineyard residence about a year ago.
Daoust was taken to Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn and released Tuesday on personal recognizance bail, a jail worker there said.
Jay police issued Daoust a criminal trespass warning, Young said.
