CALAIS – Barbara Tibbetts Treworgy, 82, of 772 Main St., Calais, passed away peacefully Sept. 23, at her home of 53 years, in the arms of her husband, Robert L. Treworgy and her oldest daughter, Elaine Jacques.
She was born in Augusta, on April 20, 1926, daughter of the late Harold M. and Lillah (Wilbur) Tibbetts. She graduated from the University of Maine with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1948.
She moved to Calais with her husband and children in 1954. In her younger years, she was active in her church and community. She taught Sunday school at the First Congregational Church for many years. She was also a deacon, trustee, registrar and president of the Junior Guild and Woman’s Association.
She was a Girl Scout troop leader and president of the Washington County Girl Scout Association. She was president of the Calais Regional Hospital Auxiliary and during her terms of office, the Jessie Wilson Coffee Shop was started. The latter years of her life she devoted her time and energy to the plight of the mentally ill.
She was a loving help mate to her husband for 61 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Treworgy; two daughters, Elaine T. Jacques of Auburn and Jane E. Treworgy of Bangor; two sons, Paul R. Treworgy Sr. and wife, Janet, of Topsham and Scott W. Treworgy, M.D., and wife, Darla, of Yarmouth; six grandchildren, P. Robert Treworgy Jr. and his wife, Megan, Sarah Treworgy, Jennifer Jacques, Alexis Hendry, Mallory Treworgy and Brock Treworgy; one sister, Beverlee Kline of Delray Beach, Fla.; a brother, Paul E. Tibbetts of Naples, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
