FREEPORT – Jeannette Ashton, 83, of Freeport Nursing Home, died Wednesday, Sept. 24.
She was born Oct. 29, 1924, in Waterville, to Napoleon Garneau and Odelie (Morissette) Garneau. Educated in Rumford and Lewiston schools, she was a graduate of Lewiston High School. She was an excellent and devoted mother.
She was employed in Washington, D.C., during World War II. She then worked in various banks and factories locally. She retired from a lengthy career with the state of Maine.
In retirement, she enjoyed watching movies and game shows with her family, friends and cat. She was an avid Red Sox fan, always with her favorite soda at her side.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy Lawrence and her husband, Joel, of Windham; two sons, Lenny Ashton and his wife, Pat, of Lewiston and Tom Ashton of Lewiston; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Dora Garneau of Lewiston; a lifelong friend, Barbara Andrews of Orlando, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Lucille Morin and Fern Ladd; and four brothers, Lionel, Ernest, Armand and Raymond Garneau.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Freeport Nursing Home for the wonderful care they gave to Jeannette.
