This is in response to Anne Ceplikas’ letter (Sept. 22) where she questioned how a person could be both pro-life and a Second Amendment supporter.

She asked, can a person be pro-life and support the National Rifle Association? Absolutely! I am pro-life, and that goes for unborn children as well as my family. If a criminal were to threaten my family’s life, I’ll choose to defend life – ours, not theirs.

She asked if a person can be pro-life and continue to send U.S. soldiers to war. Again, I say yes. I support the nation’s troops and the war on terror. If I’m not mistaken, thanks to the decisions the Bush administration has made, we have not been attacked again on U.S. soil. By fighting the terrorists over there, the troops save thousands of lives here. Is that not a pro-life stance?

In closing, Ceplikas wrote her opinion that the Second Amendment is a collective right reserved only for militias. While I appreciate her view, clearly that is not what the Founding Fathers had in mind, and the Supreme Court recently clarified that.

What part of “shall not be infringed” do people not understand?

I believe that life begins at conception, and I would choose to defend my home and my family.

How more pro-life can a person get?
