Pittsfield – Avon D. Roberts, 69, formerly of Chesterville, moved into a haven of rest after a long illness, Friday, at Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield.

He was born on Jan. 13, 1939, in Pittsfield, the son of Winfield and Margaret (Kaiser) Roberts. He received his education in Pittsfield schools and obtained his GED in 1995.

Avon loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman all of his life. Skipping school to go fishing got him in trouble on several occasions. He enjoyed gardening and reading a good book when he wasn’t able to be outdoors. He worked a short time for the railroad and also on a dairy farm as well as carnival rides and games for several years. He worked for a time at the Coinna Woolen Mill and various shoe factories, most recently at Franklin Shoe in Farmington.

He is survived by two brothers, Gary E. Roberts and his wife, Patricia, of West Haven, Conn., and Mannie E. Roberts of West Melbourne, Fla.; two sisters, Shelby J. Searles and her husband, Harvey, of Canaan and Jolean M. Tupper of Unity; several nephews and nieces; and his special friends, Terry and Julia Belanger of Jay.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Terry D. Roberts; a nephew, Christopher T. Sisco; and long-time partner, Georgia Belanger of Jay.

The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to the Rumford Community Home, Sebasticook Valley Community Home, Sebasticook Valley Health Care Facility and Sebasticook Valley Hospital staff for the excellent care given to Avon.
