Boys make Scouts’ top rank
WINTHROP – Ryan Fish of Wayne and Bennett Doughty of Winthrop were awarded the rank of Eagle, Boy Scouting’s highest rank, recently. Troop 604, parents and invited guests honored the Scouts at a Court of Honor at the Winthrop Congregational Church.
One major Eagle rank requirement is completion of a community service project. For his project, Fish worked with the Kennebec Land Trust on the Tyler Woods Conservation Area in Readfield.
He prepared a new trail map and brochure. The brochure features points of interest that are marked on the trail with posts.
He also made directional signs using some of those posts. With the help of Troop 604 members, trust members, local residents and others, he cleared 1 miles of new trails and installed the posts and signs.
Fish is a sophomore at Maranacook High School and he is the son of Susan and Gary Fish of Wayne.
Doughty worked with Camp Mechuwana in Winthrop on the Asbury Theatre. He created four signs in order to direct visitors to the theater. Two smaller signs are located on the camp road, while the other bigger signs appear directly outside the theater and at a fork on the winding path to the establishment. With the help of Mechuwana, Troop 604 and surrounding businesses, Asbury Theatre is officially complete and ready to house the talents of years to come.
Doughty is a junior at Winthrop High School and he is the son of Gail and Dwight Doughty of Winthrop.
