AUGUSTA (AP) – The Maine Conservation Department says four people have been arrested after refusing to leave a state office in Augusta following a protest of Plum Creek’s development plan for Moosehead Lake.

The department says nearly a dozen protesters showed up Monday at conservation offices. It says a restroom in the building was vandalized during the protest.

Conservation Commissioner Patrick McGowan and LURC Director Catherine Carroll spoke with the protesters and another meeting’s scheduled for Tuesday morning with Carroll.

Last week, the state Land Use Regulation Commission endorsed the Moosehead Lake plan in advance of a final vote that could come early next year.

The group Maine Earth First! says Plum Creek’s review process was flawed and LURC hasn’t listened to opponents.
