BELFAST (AP) – A 47-year-old Searsport man with an extensive criminal past has been sentenced to nine years for assaulting two Waldo County sheriff’s deputies last year.

Allen Leroy Moody was sentenced in Waldo County Superior Court in Belfast. Moody was convicted last January, but Justice Jeffrey Hjelm delayed sentencing pending a review of his criminal history.

According to court documents, Moody has a criminal record dating back to 1978 that includes assaults, criminal threatening, burglaries, trespassing, thefts and driving offenses.

Because of Moody’s record, the officer assault charge was elevated from a Class C to a Class B felony, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years.
