CANTON – Nellie Davis, 90, of the Victorian Villa Nursing Home, formerly of Bean’s Corner in Jay, died early Wednesday, Oct. 1, at the Victorian Villa.
She was born on Sept. 7, 1918, in Haverhill, Mass., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Platukys. She graduated from Keene State University in New Hampshire.
She was a school teacher during her working life and taught grades K-9 in a one-room schoolhouse in Richmond, N.H. She and her husband, Albert W. Davis moved from New Hampshire to Maine in the early 1970s.
She will be long remembered for her beautiful flower gardens that she and her husband meticulously cared for and brightened Bean’s Corner that also were featured in Down East magazine.
She is survived by her son, Bill Davis of Elkton, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Tiffany Ann Davis of New Orleans, La., Michael Palesky of Tennessee, and Tony Davis, stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C.; a great-granddaughter, Crystal Hooter; and special family friends, Tony and Irene Couture of Jay.
She was predeceased by her husband, Albert on Feb. 9, 2005; a brother; and a sister.
