TURNER – After three days of searching, police on Friday said James Lessard was found safe in Brownsville, Texas.
Since Monday, investigators from the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department have been working on leads and appealing for help from the public in locating the 25-year-old Turner man.
On Friday, Lessard called some of his friends and those calls generated enough information so police could call off their search.
“With that, we were able to track him down there,” sheriff’s Detective William Gagne said. “We were able to locate him and determine that he is safe.”
Lessard was last seen Monday when he put fuel in a company van owned by his father and then visited a friend in Hartford. After that, the trail went cold. Police and family members were concerned throughout the week because Lessard had been depressed over the death of his mother and a recent breakup with a girlfriend.
They also said it was out of character for Lessard to leave the area in a company vehicle, with no phone, money or credit cards.
However, Gagne said that the company van Lessard drove away with was not considered a stolen vehicle. No crime was committed and police said their investigation is over.
