MONMOUTH – A woman riding in a van that crashed on Route 202 on Friday died after she was thrown from the vehicle.

Police said Donna Brennan, 43, of Winthrop was dead when they arrived at the crash site about 2:20 p.m.

Brennan was one of four passengers in the Nissan Quest van driven by her husband, 46-year-old John Brennan, police said.

Brennan was driving west on Route 202 when a flatbed truck traveling in front of him stopped as the driver prepared to turn into The Auto Shop parking lot.

Police said Brennan could not stop in time to avoid a collision and the van struck the back of the flatbed. Donna Brennan was thrown from the vehicle while three others in the van suffered minor injuries.

The Brennans’ daughter, 19-year-old Suzanne Brennan, was treated at the scene as were Michael Jones, 25, of Wayne, and David Ridlon, age unknown, of Winthrop.

Police said the flatbed truck was driven by Harrison Hamner, 21, of Winthrop. He was taken to Central Maine Medical Center where he was treated for injuries described as nonlife-threatening.

The afternoon crash near the Winthrop line forced the closure of Route 202 as emergency crews responded and police began an investigation.

Maine State Police assisted Monmouth police with a reconstruction and the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit was sent to help with the investigation.
