LEWISTON – A service of remembrance for Dr. Norman Gauvreau, who passed away Sept. 22, was held Saturday afternoon at the Pinette & Lynch Funeral Home.
Dr. Guavreau’s children, Gayle, Ken, Paul and Doug Gauvreau, all shared words of remembrance about their father’s life and how important he was in their family’s lives.
Following the sharing of memories, all in attendance were led to the outside courtyard of the funeral home where the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Detail played taps and presented our country’s flag to Dr. Gauvreau’s wife, Dorothy, in recognition of her husband’s service to his country during World War II.
Pilot Rick Hornbeck then flew over the concluding military services in a vintage Waco Naval Trainer aircraft. He made a 180 degree turn toward the setting sun in the west as a final flying tribute of Dr. Gauvreau’s love for flying and his service as a Marine pilot in the Pacific and as Naval flight instructor after World War II.
Bagpiper John Ryan concluded the services by playing “Amazing Grace.”
Following services, all were invited to the Lewiston-Auburn College of the University of Maine Campus in Lewiston for a reception of fellowship.
Arrangements by Pinette & Lynch Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Lewiston.
