LEWISTON – Brian Morrissey rushed for 107 yards and a touchdown and Patrick Moffitt passed for 196 yards, including a 35-yard touchdown strike to Ryan Powell to lead Williams College to a 27-14 victory over Bates College in the Bobcats’ home opener.

First-year quarterback Ryan Katon completed 16-of-34 passes for 167 yards and a touchdown, and rushed for a 5-yard touchdown that gave Bates (0-3) an early 7-0 lead.

The Ephs (2-1) came back with a 60-yard touchdown drive and executed a 73-yard drive in the second quarter to take a 13-7 halftime lead.

Down, 27-7, the Bobcats assembled a bookend scoring drive late in the fourth quarer as Katon completed four straight passes for 51 yards, three of them to Matt Gregg. A 10-yard strike closed the gap to 27-14.

Bowdoin 28, Tufts 26

BRUNSWICK – Quarterback Oliver Kell threw for 224 yards and a touchdown, and ran for another score, to lead Bowdoin to their first win of the season with a 28-26 decision over Tufts.

The Jumbos (2-1) opened the second quarter with a 71-yard drive that ended in a 14-yard crossing pattern touchdown pass from Anthony Fucillo to David Halas that trimmed the lead to 14-7.

Neither team scored in the third quarter, but the Polar Bears (1-2) increased their lead early in the fourth quarter, as a 64-yard drive culminated with a second Ian Vieira touchdown run on the day that pushed the lead to 28-20.

Husson 16, Mount Ida 12

NEWTON, Mass. – Running back Julius Williams rushed for a pair of touchdowns to pace Husson to a 16-12 victory over Mount Ida.

For 45 minutes through three quarters, the Eagles (3-2) managed the only scoring off a 32-yard field goal by senior Darren Gauthier. In the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, Williams finished off a 57-yard drive with a 35-yard run to put Husson up 9-0. The Eagles botched the point-after.

On the ensuing drive, the Mustangs (2-2) punched one into the end zone on a quarterback keeper by Tony Tokarz. The point-after was blocked. Each team traded a touchdown in the final four minutes with Mount Ida trying a deperation onside kick that failed as time ran out.

Colby 13, Wesleyan 7

WATERVILLE – Junior running back Dan Prunier scored the eventual game-winner with 13 minutes left in the fourth quarter as Colby squeezed out a 13-7 victory over Wesleyan.

The Mules (2-1) scored first when Victory Gagne booted a 32-yard field goal following a Cardinals (0-3) fumble on a punt return at their own 36-yard line.

Colby took a 10-7 lead in the fourth quarter when Prunier rolled to his right and found a wide-open Matt Hellinger for a 31-yard scoring pass to cap off an 84-yard drive.

Five minutes later, the Mules got the ball back again and Gagne made a 19-yard field goal to force the Cardinals to aim for more than just a field goal as the game wound down.
