WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) – Police in Worcester have arrested a 21-year-old man on assault charges stemming from a large fight that led to the stabbing death of a fellow city resident.

Daniel Parke was arrested Sunday and will be arraigned at the Worcester District Court on Monday on two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon.

Police say officers responding to a report of a fight involving about 30 people at the area of 75 North Street found only a few people dispersing from the area on Saturday night.

But police received a call about 10 minutes later, saying 20-year-old Jean Mathieu had just arrived at UMass Memorial Medical Center and was being treated for multiple stab wounds in the chest that he suffered during the fight. He was pronounced dead about 11 minutes later.

Parke’s number was not listed and it was not immediately clear if Parke had legal representation.
