AUBURN – Jerome J. Whirley has been elected president of the newly formed Men’s Auxiliary/Support Group to the Capt. Frank W. Hulett Post 1603, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Installation of officers for the men’s auxiliary will take place at noon Sunday, Nov. 2.
Whirley is the youngest of 13 children, the majority of whom have been or are active members of the post. He is the brother of Joan Hebert, currently serving as president of the Maine VFW Women’s Auxiliary.
Whirley said formation of men/s auxiliary will help further bolster the post’s efforts to support veterans in a variety of endeavors, working with members of the VFW Post and Women’s Auxiliary.
A drive is under way to solicit members of the Men’s Auxiliary. Eligibility is extended to husbands, widowers, fathers, grandfathers, sons, grandsons, brothers and half-brothers who attained that status prior to age 16 of persons who were or are eligible for membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.
Any qualified individuals or those who may have questions concerning their eligibility and who are interested in participating in the new auxiliary are asked to contact Whirley at 240-7271 or the post at 783-2561.
