LEWISTON – William R. Libby, 83, died of natural causes on Oct. 5.

He was born in Maine on June 25, 1925. He was a Navy veteran who served in World War II on destroyers and saw combat in the Pacific.

He was a machinist in Norwood, Mass., for 20 years, before moving back to Maine, where he worked as a maintenance man for the Maine Elan School and later at the Mechanic Falls town hall.

He was a skilled handy man and willingly volunteered his assistance to all his nieces and nephews and also developed wood and metal crafts for his family. Bill also loved his time on the golf course.

He was a loving and caring uncle to many nieces and nephews. He is survived by Robert Graves and Nancy and Judy Packard of Florida, Ray Thurston and Cindy, Robert Chapman and Janis, Debbie Rodrigue, Jill McCann and Dick, Cathi Smith and Ralph, Jan Cloutier, Sonia Herrick and Linda Paine and Jeff, all of Maine; many great-nieces and nephews; and his dear friends, Dan and Cookie Colbert.

He was predeceased by the love of his life, Leida M. Libby.
