It is alarming that a 72-year-old presidential candidate, with a history of severe health problems, should choose so unqualified a running mate for vice president.

It is clearly a choice of potential election benefit, not of qualification to take over the executive duties in the event of death or disability of the president. For disappointed Hillary Clinton supporters – her sex; for undecided voters – her colorful personality. Gov. Palin provides those.

It is deeply disappointing that, apparently, John McCain is focused more on winning (ego satisfaction) than about ensuring a capable hand at the helm in these difficult and dangerous times for the country.
