A McCain-Palin victory will likely result in new Supreme Court appointments and the subsequent overturning of Roe v. Wade, the 1970s decision giving women the right to choose the outcome of an unintended pregnancy. John McCain has stated his intention to pursue that goal; and Sarah Palin believes even a pregnancy that results from rape or incest should be carried to term.

There will always be abortions, as there have been for centuries, because there are no perfect people or perfect birth control methods. The question really is will women be allowed access to safe, legal abortions, or will they need to jeopardize their own lives to obtain illegal, unsafe abortions.

Those countries that have legalized abortions and provide ready access to contraceptive information and supplies, even to teenagers, have fewer abortions per capita.

Denial doesn’t solve problems.
