LEWISTON – Edward Elwell, 46, of Topsham was listed in critical condition late Friday night with injuries from being struck by a truck on Sabattus Street late Thursday while painting traffic lines.

Elwell is a patient at Central Maine Medical Center, where a spokesman said his condition is critical.

Elwell was working with his two sons a little after 10 p.m. when he was hit by a pickup truck, police said The driver, whose name was not being released, was a woman headed downtown, returning home from work, police said. They are still working to reconstruct the accident to determine what exactly happened.

Elwell was working for Pine Tree Safety Lines, a Topsham company.
