AUGUSTA (AP) – New financial disclosure reports confirm that Maine’s people’s veto campaign – over whether to retain new beverage taxes to bolster the state’s Dirigo Health program – is a financial mismatch.

The group leading the tax repeal effort has raised more than $2 million, records indicate, while defenders of the pending law have raised less than $200,000.

Fed Up With Taxes, a political action committee backed by beverage companies, Maine businesses and the Maine State Chamber of Commerce, raised money from bottlers of national soda brands and other beverage industry sources.

For the group called Health Coverage for Maine, $40,000 came from the American Medical Association.
