FARMINGTON – School superintendents from Franklin County will participate in a public breakfast forum on the school consolidation process at 7 a.m. Friday in the North Dining Hall of Olsen Student Center at the University of Maine at Farmington. The forum includes a free breakfast, and all are welcome.
As voters prepare to decide on consolidation proposals on Nov. 4, school administrators from Jay, Livermore Falls, Phillips, Rangeley and Farmington will provide their perspective.
School consolidation, considered to be the most significant change in education administration since the creation of school administrative districts more than 50 years ago, began in 2006 as the result of state legislation aimed at dramatically reducing the number of school systems in Maine.
The Western Maine Legislative Caucus is an annual series of public forums on topics of interest to the region. The forums are sponsored by the Western Mountains Alliance, University of Maine at Farmington, Franklin Community Health Network, Greater Franklin Development Corporation, Mission at the Eastward, Western Maine Community Action Program and SAD 9.
