NEWINGTON, N.H. (AP) – New Hampshire police are looking for whoever pilfered a $1,500 Pekingese from a Newington pet store.

Stephanie Bowes, manager of the Pet Connection in the Fox Run Mall, said the white female pup was taken Monday night. She said a group of teenagers had been lingering near the container holding the dogs just before the theft was discovered.

Newington police officer Seth Appelbaum said the dog’s price tag makes the theft a felony.

A micro chip is implanted in the dog. Any veterinary hospital will be able to check for the chip to identify it.
