Talk on trust
AUBURN – The Woman’s Literary Union Garden Club will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at the clubhouse, 19 Elm St. Jon Labonte, executive director of the Androscoggin Land Trust, will give a PowerPoint presentation about the trust, whose purpose is the conservation and management of land along the Androscoggin River. Refreshments will be served and guests are welcome.
Legislative Night
POLAND – Excelsior Grange 5, 446 Harris Hill Road, will observe Legislative Night at a special program on Saturday, Oct. 18, following the business meeting.
A member of the current legislature will speak on the problems facing the state regarding the current fiscal crisis locally and nationally.
All grange members and anyone interested in learning more about the situation are invited. Refreshments will be served following the meeting.
School craft fair
LEWISTON – The Gov. James B. Longley Elementary School and the Lewiston-Auburn Optimist Club are sponsoring a craft fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Multi-Purpose Building across from the Colisee.
More than 50 tables of handmade crafts from local crafters will be displayed in the gym. Admission is free and food and raffle prizes are available.
Proceeds will benefit Longley Elementary School and the L A Optimist Club.
Pathways meeting
LEWISTON – Pathways Inc. will hold its annual meeting at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at the Green Ladle, 156 East Ave.
Officials to visit
AUBURN – Liberty Rebekah Lodge 94 will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, in the recreation room at the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs Home, 85 Caron Lane, when a sandwich buffet will be available.
The Rebekah Assembly of Maine will convene Thursday and Friday, Oct. 16 and 17, at the Ramada Inn, Lewiston. The assembly will install the newly elected officers on Saturday afternoon. The new president will then appoint her slate of officers.
The newly appointed District 3 deputy president and marshal will make their official visit at the meeting of Liberty Rebekah Lodge on Monday. During the business meeting that begins at 7 p.m., the district deputy president will be introduced to the members and will outline the new Rebekah Assembly president’s program for 2008-2009.
Pamela Black, noble grand, will officiate at her first meeting. She requests that all members wear dress attire to honor the new district deputy president.
Herbalist to talk
NEW GLOUCESTER – Betsey-Ann Golon, herbalist and herb gardener at Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, will offer a free public talk on botany in Shaker art and Shaker herb lore at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at the Shaker Library, Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, Route 26.
The talk is one of a series of free talks that complement “The Human and the Eternal,” an exhibit of Shaker folk art that will be open free the night of the talk from 6 to 7 p.m.
Appraisal night
TURNER – The Turner Historical History Museum will have an antique appraisal night at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, on the fourth floor of the old Leavitt Institute building. Jim Talbot, auctioneer of Talbot’s Auctions, will be on hand to do the appraisals. Limit is one item a person. Cost is $5.
Class reunion
PORTLAND – The Gray-New Gloucester Class of 1993 15th reunion will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, at the Ri Ra Irish Pub, 72 Commercial St.
