LEWISTON – Montreal singer Dominica Merola, also an accomplished piano player and music composer, will return to the Franco-American Heritage Center at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26. She will be accompanied by accomplished guitarist and producer Vincenzo Thoma.

A singer with a large voice in a unique timbre that is both mellow-sweet and fiery, Merola will perform songs from her record “The Signs of Desire” in French, as well as songs in English and in Italian.

With moving melodies and colorful rhythms, she weaves a unique musical space with influences near and far. This is evident in “The Signs of Desire,” her first CD released in Montreal in 2006 and produced by Thoma. She is currently preparing her second album to be released in 2009.

Merola launched into her solo singing career without hesitation after studying music at L’école de musique Vincent d’Indy in Montreal and theatre at Saint-Hyacinthe College in Quebec. She has received grants from the Quebec council for the arts and literature and the Quebec department of international affairs.

She has participated in many prominent musical events, including the Rideau Awards in Quebec City, the Coup de coeur Francophone across Canada, the “Rencontres de la chanson” à Salon-de-Provence in France, as well as festivals in Toronto and in the United States.

Merola has also been invited to perform at the University of Maine in Farmington, Lewiston’s FrancoFun Festival and the Franco-American Heritage Centers in Lewiston and Manchester, N.H.

For reservations, call the box office at 689-2000. Admission is $12, $10 for students and senior citizens. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. For more information, visit www.francoamericanheritage.org.
