NORWAY – Merlyn T. Varnes, 82, of Norway, died Tuesday, Oct. 14, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

She was born on July 6, 1926 in Portland to Merle A. and Mabel (Morrison) Tarr. She graduated from Portland High School and Katherine Gibbs School in Boston.

She married Ralph W. Varnes, Jr. on Aug. 30, 1957, and he passed away on Nov. 12, 2004. She worked as a secretary for the Department of Human Services in the District of Columbia. She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church of Portland and the Second Congregational Church of Norway.

She is survived by a niece, Roxanne Cyr of Otisfield.
