CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – The high heels came off and the running shoes went on.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who likes to say “the heels are on, the gloves are off,” made a quick stop at downtown Concord shoe store Wednesday to buy a pair of orange and gray running shoes for herself and a pair of sneakers for her daughter Piper.

The Republican vice presidential nominee asked for running shoes with “the fattest tread” and made sure the pair she purchased were waterproof for running in Alaskan snow.

Eying the reporters off to one side, assistant manager Sarah Emberley asked Palin if it was stressful having people follow her everywhere.

“Not stressful at all, just busy of course,” Palin answered.

Outside, a crowd of Barack Obama supporters chanted their support for the Democratic presidential nominee.

“I say Obama, you say ‘You betcha!”‘ they yelled, borrowing one of the folksy phrases Palin likes to use.
