WOODSTOCK – Eighty voters at a special town meeting Tuesday accepted the new Rustic Outlook Road as a town way, 58-24.

The road is off Route 26 and leads to a 12-lot development established by Lloyd Poland of Oxford. It is 1 mile long and was built to town specifications.

Town Manager Vern Maxfield said acceptance came as a bit of a surprise since he had heard mostly negatives prior to the meeting. “But Lloyd has done his work well and the road was accepted earlier this fall by the Planning Board,” Maxfield said.

He added that the acceptance becomes effective June 1, 2009, and the development will now be taxed as individual lots. Until now, it has been taxed as just land. Two lots were sold there this summer, he noted, requiring it be taxed as lots.

Year-round road maintenance is estimated to cost $8,000, Maxwell said. Taxes on the lots are expected to cover most of the extra expense.

“It’s probably the best road in Woodstock at this time,” Maxfield said.
