LEWISTON – Two days after a tough, 3-1 loss to Rimouski, the Lewiston Maineiacs will again hit the ice at home this weekend, with a chance to even their record with a pair of wins.

Losses would dig the team into an even deeper hole in the Telus Central Division.

Lewiston welcomes Halifax to the Androscoggin Bank Colisee on Friday night, and the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies will pay a visit on Saturday. The two have combined for eight wins this season.

The Mooseheads’ six points this season puts them in 17th place overall in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, and in sixth of six teams in the Atlantic Division, while the Huskies have five wins and sit in third in the Telus West Division behind Gatineau and Montreal.

Lewiston has lost two in a row after posting a win last Friday at home against Drummondville, including a 3-1 decision to visiting Rimouski on Wednesday.

Part of the team’s consternation has come on the power play. The Maineiacs are 12-for-77 on the man-advantage this season, and four of those goals came in the team’s opener in Baie-Comeau. The Maineiacs are just 1-for-19 in the last three games, and have squandered five-minute major advantages in each of those games.

If there is any cure at all for those ills, it may be the Mooseheads’ penalty kill. The Moose rumble into Lewiston having allowed 18 goals while playing shorthanded. The Huskies, Saturday’s opponent, have allowed 15 in 69 chances.

With back-to-back games, Maineiacs’ fans will likely get to see backup Philip Wright play another game at home. Wright stopped 20 of 21 shots in a 4-1 win over Shawinigan on Sept. 20.

Friday and Saturday’s games are both scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
