The front page article “Just in case” (Oct. 13) was both disturbing and contemptible. The Sun Journal failed its readers in a tragic way. The story sent the message that people should hoard and be afraid, at an unhelpful time.

We should all be prepared in our own ways to face tight times. But the modern world is a very large machine in which we all depend upon each other to keep it running well.

People need to become more a part of the entire whole, not withdraw and shut down.

The nation’s economic machine runs on two types of oil. The one that fuels the trucks that transport goods to us (which is still flowing), and the cash flow that enables transactions to happen.

Our current situation was brought upon us by liberal factions pushing fiscal buttons to enhance home ownership through rampant mortgage schemes, and buying votes in the process. Bankers and speculators swooped in, puffed up the money flow through outrageous leverages, and skimmed off tremendous profits, creating an artificial shortage in cash flow, and bringing the economic machine nearly to a halt. (They should be jailed!)

That situation is being addressed and will be fixed in time.

The nation will move on, and the sun will come up tomorrow.

Hoarding only hurts the recovery. Most of what people hoard will spoil before it is used.

The Sun Journal should stop sponsoring the negative. Start pursuit of the positive!
