AUBURN – City trash crews will be collecting leaves for three weeks in October and November curbside, at their shops and at MMWAC.
Residents who get curbside collection from the city can put leaves and clippings in bags apart from their regular household trash on their normal collection day.
“They can put grass out, if they want,” said Sid Hazelton, assistant public works director. “Basically, we’re asking them to leave anything that falls from a tree and needs to be raked up.”
Others can take their leaves to two sites: the Public Works Department facility at 296 Gracelawn Road or the Mid-Maine Waste Action Corp. facility on Goldthwaite Road.
Collections are scheduled for three weeks, beginning Oct. 27. Crews will collect leaves curbside Oct. 27 through 31, Nov. 3 through 7 and Nov. 17 through 21.
They won’t collect leaves the week following Veterans Day, Nov. 10 through 14.
Leaves and clippings are ground and composted to make loam. Hazelton said bags should be compostable, biodegradable or made of post-consumer waste.
