AUBURN – Police here are looking for help in tracking down an SUV involved in a hit-and-run wreck last week that caused more than $5,000 in damage to a West Gardiner man’s truck.

According to a police report, the crash occurred at 4:25 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, on Center Street in front of VIP Auto Center at 128 Center St. A red Buick Rendezvous, reported by witnesses to be a newer model year, did not yield the right-of-way when pulling out of the parking lot and hit a 2005 GMC pick-up truck driven by Clifford M. Wells, 67, of 447 Pond Road, West Gardiner. Wells was uninjured in the accident.

Damage to Wells’ truck was estimated at $5,000. Witnesses said there would be damage to the front end of the Buick SUV, which fled the crash scene. Anyone with information regarding the wreck is asked to contact the Auburn Police Department at 784-7332.
