BRIDGTON – The Shadows of Knight band, which shot to the top of the music charts in 1966 with the rock anthem “Gloria,” will perform Saturday, Oct. 25, to help raise money for the new 59-acre Pondicherry Park.

The band is led by original lead singer Jimmy Sohns.

“These guys will put on an incredible show,” said Peter Lowell, executive director of the Lakes Environmental Association, one of the organizations leading the Pondicherry Park campaign.

“Gloria,” the party song loved by generations, has sold more than 8 million copies since those three famous chords found immortality among fraternities, rock stars and the rest of the rock-loving world. In 2001, VH-1 Music Television voted it the No. 81 Best Rock Song in rock ‘n’ roll history.

The Shadows of Knight also released four subsequent hits: “I Got My Mojo Workin’,” “Bad Little Woman,” “I’m Gonna Make You Mine,” and a version of the Muddy Waters’ tune “Oh Yeah.” The band also had a 1 million seller with its final chart hit, “Shake!”

Opening the show will be local band The Disclaimers.

The concert/dance will begin at 8 p.m. at the old town hall, 26 North High St. (Route 302). Admission: $30 per person. Only 200 tickets are available. Tickets are at The Cool Moose, 108 Main St., and at LEA, 230 Main St., Bridgton.
