PORTLAND (AP) – The Democratic candidate in Maine’s 1st District congressional race, Chellie Pingree, has won the endorsement of the Maine Sunday Telegram.

The newspaper says the southern Maine district will be well-served to have Pingree serving in Washington. Pingree faces Republican Charlie Summers in the Nov. 4 election.

In an editorial Monday, the Morning Sentinel of Waterville and Kennebec Journal of Augusta encouraged voters to approve a $3.4 million bond issue on the ballot for drinking water treatment and supply systems and wastewater treatment facilities.

On Saturday, the Bangor Daily News gave an editorial endorsement to Barack Obama, and The Times Record of Brunswick did the same a day earlier.
