FARMINGTON – Prior to November referendum votes, a community forum on questions 1 and 2 will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Fairbanks School Meeting House on Route 4.

Maine voters will decide whether to repeal a tax on soda and beer that helps fund Dirigo Healthcare (Question 1) and whether a casino should be built in Oxford County (Question 2).

Sponsored by the Wilton Blueberry Farm in partnership with the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, the forum will provide information from both sides of the issues and give voters a chance to ask questions.

“These are important questions and nobody had put together an opportunity like this,” said organizer Irv Faunce. “After seeing the space at the new Fairbanks School, my wife and I decided we could put something together. As owners of the Blueberry Farm, we want to bring interesting points of view together.”

Newell Auger, chairman of the “Fed Up With Taxes” organization will present reasons to repeal the beer and soda tax while Edie Smith of the “No on One” campaign will offer the reasons to keep it in place.

Pat LaMarche will present the case for construction of a casino in Oxford and Dennis Bailey of CasinosNO! will offer the opposing view.

Admission is free.
