LEWISTON – An opening reception for the Halloween art show “The Dark, the Disturbing, and the Daring” will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Oct. 25, at Captive Elements Art House.

Featured will be works by Lena Toth, Mike Sauro, Atomic Simian and many of the resident artists of the Art House.

Lena Toth of Auburn works in charcoal, paints and sculpture but has explored other mediums, such as coffee and cranberry juice. She has been drawing with a fervor since her youth, and her maturity and obsession are apparent at first view.

Mike Sauro of Norway pieces metals he finds at junkyards into artwork of people, tractors, hot-air balloons, motorcycles and more. He looks at the world with an eagerness to morph all into metal.

Atomic Simian is a team of five young men with an eye to affect not only the local graphic novel scene, but the international scene as well. All writing, ink, coloring and marketing is done by one or all members.

The Christopher Cathodes trio will perform at the reception. There will be food, beverages and a costume contest. Admission is $10. Attendees must be 21 years old.

The exhibit, which is open to the public free of charge after the opening, will be up through Nov. 29. For more information, call 786-3606.
