WOODSTOCK – Selectmen voted this week to schedule a special meeting for Tuesday, Oct. 28, to take up issues that would normally be covered at the regular Nov. 4 meeting.

Town Manager Vern Maxfield said the town office will be used for polling on Nov. 4, Election Day.

The session will start at 5 p.m.

Maxfield also told selectmen he received the new townwide valuation from the state, $170,000,000.

“This year’s valuation is up by $9 million over 2007 and is based on this year’s property sales and is about what I expected,” Maxfield said.

He told selectmen people were pleased with the turnout for the recent 100th anniversary of Whitman Memorial Library celebration, which drew crowds and netted $1,500 in donations for the library’s general fund.

He said the former Lang home off Route 232 will be burned as a practice exercise for the Fire Department on Nov. 2.
