LEWISTON – The area east of Main Street will get some tender loving care Saturday as members of a new neighborhood schedule a cleanup walk.

The group is calling itself the Sunnyside Neighborhood Association, named for Sunnyside Park, south of the Riverside Cemetery. The group claims the area from the Longley Bridge to south to Chapel Street Alley and from Main Street west to the river. The area is also known as Hospital Hill, and neighbors call it Lewiston’s Back Bay. The area encompasses Central Maine Medical Center, Pineland Lumber and the L.L. Bean Call Center.

Mark McComas, deputy director of Economic and Community Development, said the group plans to meet at 10 a.m. Saturday in the park for the neighborhood cleanup. Volunteers will fan out from there, he said.
