FARMINGTON – A continuing effort to make the Farmington Community Center more energy efficient took another step forward this week with the installation of new windows on the east side of the building.

“It’s a program we’ve embarked on over the last few years,” said Steve Shible, director of parks and recreation for the town.

Windows and doors were installed on the west side of the building last year and if all goes well with budgeting, the south or rear side of the building may be done next year followed by replacement of windows on the front another year, he said.

Selectmen approved a contract with Oakes and Parkhurst in September for replacement of the east-side windows at a cost of $4,093.84.

While $3,825 was budgeted for the windows, it was decided the remaining $268.84 needed would be taken from budgeted items that were not undertaken this year.

An upgrade to the heating blower system in the center’s gym has also been completed, Shible added.
