A few years ago in Dixfield, Hart Daley and Scott Blaisdell thought it would be great to bring football back to the school. Although I supported them verbally, in the back of my mind, I thought they were nuts. I figured it was never going to happen with other varsity sports being played in the same season.

Well, I have been proven wrong.

Those two put in a Herculean effort, and the school’s current success should be a reward for them. The present coaches, David Crutchfield, Dana Whittemore, Lou Brann and Doug Gilbert, have done an outstanding job, but if it weren’t for Daley and Blaisdell a few years ago, football would not be the talk of the town, as it is now. The players will be forever grateful. Looking back on my days in school, football was a big part of it.

So, from each and every one of us who thought they were crazy to try, and the ones who felt they would succeed, I say thank you to them for making it possible.

Dirigo football is back, thanks to them.

Jon Holmes, Dixfield
