Rep. Tim Carter has proven his worth in Augusta.

As chairman of the House Committee on Business, Research and Economic Development, I first met him as he served on the Regulatory Fairness Board, prior to winning his election in 2006. He did a terrific job.

As a farmer and a forester, I have seen him advocating for rural Maine throughout the legislative session.

On the floor of the House, and as he serves on the Agriculture, Conservation, and Forestry Committee, he represents the people of his district with intelligence and competence, based on his background with his own family farm and as a USDA administrator.

He voted against the Democratic majority in response to concerns raised by constituents. He voted against requiring OSHA training from employers and against increasing the minimum wage.

I encourage the people of Western Maine to support Rep. Tim Carter for an independent voice in Augusta.

Rep. Nancy Smith, Monmouth
