WILKES BARRE, Pa. – Robert James Luckie, 86, of Meshoppen, Pa. (Craig Hill), passed away at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley, in Wilkes Barre, Pa., on Friday afternoon, Oct. 24, after an illness.

He was born in Turner on May 14, 1922, the son of the late Linwood W. and Mabel Bumpus Keene. He was the husband of the former Frances S. Klimek, who passed away on Nov. 23, 1986. Growing up in Maine, he graduated from high school there, and after began his career as a carpenter.

Mr. Luckie was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II serving from 1944 to 1945, where he was stationed in Florida. He was employed by the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Union Local 1462, in the Greater Philadelphia area. While working with the union, he was employed all over the United States, but mostly in the Philadelphia and surrounding areas. In 1984, he retired to the Meshoppen area, where he enjoyed Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Mr. Luckie was a member of the St. Joachim’s – St. Bonaventure’s Roman Catholic Churches in Meshoppen and Auburn, where he was very involved with many of the church’s functions, especially with the building maintenance and restoration of the churches. He was also instrumental in the construction of the “Roast Beef Stand” at the Wyoming County Fairgrounds. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Tunkhannock, Pa.

Surviving is his second wife, the former Amelia H. (Millie) Schoenfellinger, to whom he was married for 20 years, celebrating their anniversary on June 4.

He is also survived by his daughter and her husband, Kathleen M. and Raymond Dutkiewicz, of Chicago, Ill.; two sons and their wives, Robert S. and Kathleen Luckie, of New Bloomfield, Pa., and Emile J. and Patricia Andrews Luckie, of Newport, Pa.; a daughter-in-law, Robin Luckie, of Newtown Square, Pa.; as well as 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Also surviving is his extended family of his stepdaughter and her husband, Janet and Donald Albright, of Auburn Center, Pa.; and two stepsons and their wives, Ken and Karen Bach of Auburn Center, Pa., and Curt and Barbara Bach of Meshoppen, Pa.; a sister, Mrs. Eva Riggs, of Maryland; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Emile and Marietta Klimek, of Old Orchard Beach, Maine; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding in death, besides his parents and his first wife, was a son, Martin J. Luckie, on Dec. 18, 2005; two sisters; and two brothers.
