LEWISTON – Electrical problems are being blamed for a College Street fire that caused approximately $50,000 damage Sunday evening.

Fire crews were called to 665 College St. about 5:30 p.m. The home is owned by Steve Roy, who lived there with his girlfriend and two children. No one was injured.

Firefighters had the blaze under control within a half hour.

Inspector Paul Ouellette of the Lewiston Fire Department said that the blaze was contained primarily to the kitchen area and downstairs of the two-story home. He said the fire appeared to be caused by an electrical short circuit in the wall. He added that there was also a propane heater near the origin of the fire that had heavy damage as well.
