FARMINGTON – A smaller, cozier version of Mountain View Chocolate Shoppe will occupy a space at 112 Oakes St. starting Saturday, owner Pam West said.
After nine years on Wilton Road, West will move the shop into a space between the post office and Horse Stuff, she said.
Candy production will be done at her home, while a cozy European-style chocolate shop is planned for the new space that will also offer coffee and pastries.
West said even with the present economic conditions, people seem to still have a little money left to indulge in a treat.
“After buying groceries and gas, there’s still a little left for a piece or a pound,” she said.
“It’s a business that serves free aroma therapy everyday,” she added. “It’s heartwarming to watch people come in, stop on that brown rug for 10 to 15 seconds and have that time to themselves while they stop and take a deep breath,” she added. “Chocolate makes us feel good and more people are reading how good dark chocolate can be for us.”
West does educational presentations on the history and origin of chocolate to area students and teaches that chocolate is actually a vegetable.
“It can’t replace broccoli, but in moderation,” she added.
She also teaches the art of making chocolates through adult education and private classes.
“It brings happiness to others,” she said of making chocolates. “It’s most rewarding.”
Her shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. starting Saturday.
