PARIS – A 28-year-old Paris man was arrested Saturday afternoon on felony charges of assaulting one person and threatening another.

John Michael Wallace Jr., of Deering Street was charged with criminal threatening and assault.

According to a report by Chief David Verrier of the Paris Police Department, Wallace assaulted his 22-year-old girlfriend at her Deering Street residence, bruising her arms, neck, and chin. The woman also suffered a cut on her nose after being punched.

Verrier states that Wallace also threatened the girl’s 54-year-old father with a knife when he went to the residence to get his daughter’s apartment key.

Wallace was initially held on $10,000 cash bail. At his initial appearance in South Paris District Court on Monday, Assistant District Attorney Joe O’Connor said Wallace has an “extensive criminal history” including past convictions of assault, burglary, aggravated criminal mischief, and carrying a concealed weapon.

O’Connor requested that Wallace’s bail be set at $5,000 cash or $25,000 surety. Defense attorney John Jenness Jr. asked that Wallace be released on personal recognizance bail or through a Maine Pretrial Services agreement.

Judge Paul Cote set Wallace’s bail at $5,000 cash or $25,000 surety, with conditions that he not possess dangerous weapons, have no contact with the victims, and not go to Deering Street.

Wallace remained at the Oxford County Jail on Monday afternoon.
