SOUTH PARIS – Donald L. Hunt, 82, of Norway, a beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 26, at the Maine Veterans’ Home.

He was born in Norway, Dec. 4, 1925, the son of Harrison and Blanche (Tripp) Hunt. He served his country honorably as a gunners mate in the U.S. Navy aboard the SS Hugh Williamson during World War II.

Don was the road commissioner for the town of Norway for 40 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the Norway Snow Trackers.

He loved snowmobiling, gardening, bird watching and working on anything with an engine.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris (Pratt); two daughters, Donna Mawhinney and husband, Douglas, and Sharon L. Hunt, both of Norway; four grandchildren, Robyn Savage and her partner, Jon Rhoades, Christopher Mawhinney and wife, Kimi, Jason Newell and wife, Tamara Chase and Cass Newell; four great-grandchildren, Montana and Sydney Mawhinney and Jake and Ben Miller; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; and brother, William H. Hunt.
