Maine voters are likely to receive a visit from Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain before Nov. 4.
“John McCain will be in Maine before Election Day to talk directly to Maine voters about his plans to lower our taxes, reduce wasteful government spending and get our economy back on track,” Mark Ellis, chairman of the Maine GOP, said in a statement late Wednesday.
The pending visit was confirmed by Jen Webber, spokeswoman for the Maine GOP, who said she expects more details Thursday.
McCain marked Maine as a battleground in recent weeks, particularly its more conservative and rural 2nd Congressional District. Maine, like Nebraska, is one of two states that has the ability to split its electoral votes.
Recent polling has Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama leading by double digits, statewide.
