WILTON – Police continued their investigation Wednesday into a one-vehicle wreck on Main Street Tuesday night that sent two people to the hospital.
The driver was ejected from his vehicle when he lost control. A passenger had to be extricated. Both were taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington after the 7:30 p.m. accident.
Joseph R. Buckman Jr., 18, of Wilton was driving the 2005 Dodge Neon west on Main Street when he lost control of it and it went into a ditch then became airborne before coming to rest on its side in the opposite lane of traffic. Buckman was treated and released from FMH Tuesday night according to a hospital representative.
Police Chief Dennis Brown refused to provide the name, age or address of a juvenile passenger who was taken to the local hospital then later transported by LifeFlight to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
Police said the boy suffered a broken back and head trauma. His condition on Wednesday was stable, according to police.
Police said they believe speed and alcohol may have been a factor although the cause remains under investigation.
The accident happened on Main Street near Stony Brook Trailer Park. Police officers Richard Billian and Scott Nile along with fire Chief Sonny Dunham responded to the scene to find the vehicle on its side, smoking and with heavy damage.
Maine State Police accident reconstructionists were called to the scene and Wilton firefighters assisted with extrication of the juvenile and traffic.
