BIDDEFORD (AP) – Southern Maine Medical Center is the recipient of a $1.4 million gift – the largest in the medical center’s history – from local philanthropist Dorothy Suzi Osher.

The donation will help pay for a new 3,000-square-foot cardiopulmonary rehabilitation gym at the Biddeford medical center. It will be named for Joseph A. and Anna Marie Petrin.

Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Gym in honor of Osher’s parents, who were residents of Biddeford.

The new gym will provide a place for medically supervised and monitored exercise, education and support to guide patients through recovery from heart attacks or other cardiac problems.

Construction is scheduled to begin in a few weeks.
