AUGUSTA (AP) – Republican presidential candidate John McCain’s schedule will not allow another swing into Maine before Election Day, his campaign said following earlier reports the GOP presidential nominee would visit.

Maine GOP Chairman Mark Ellis announced the visit earlier Thursday, but provided no details about the time and location of the visit. A statement issued by the McCain New England campaign Thursday night said that while Maine “is key to the McCain campaign’s strategy,” his schedule “reflects the demands of an aggressive campaign.” A campaign official said he would not visit.

McCain last visited Maine in July. He gave a speech in South Portland and attended fundraisers in Kennebunkport.
